Chakma Autonomous District Council celebrates Golden Jubilee

Kamalanagar, 29 April, 2022: Chakma Autonomous District Council today kicked off the celebration of 50 years of CADCโ€™s existence with an inaugural programme organized at Kamalanagar Halipad. Pu Lalrinliana Sailo, Honโ€™ble Speaker, Mizoram graced the occasion as Chief Guest who arrived from Aizawl this morning accompanied by Pu Lalrinawma, Commissioner & Secretary, Mizoram Legislative Assembly and Pu R. Vanlalsawta, Joint Secretary, District Council & Minority Affairs Department.

Distinguished guests Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, CEM, CADC, Dg. Nihar Kanti Chakma, MLA, West Tuipui Assembly Constituency, Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma, MLA, Tuichawng Assembly Constituency, Dg. Buddhalila Chakma, Chairman, CADC have attended the programme.

The celebration started with chanting of prayers by Bhikkhus and release of gas balloon for peace by the Chief Guest. In tribute candles were lighted before the framed photographs of pioneers of CADC autonomy movement and Dgb. Jyotsna Chakma, Member, CADC Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee offered condolences to all the deceased councilors.

The programme showcased the varied aspects of tradition Jhumma life of the Chakmas performed by the Young Chakma Association and Chakma Mahila Samiti in collaboration with Art & Culture Department, CADC which included the different stages of Jhum cultivation, fishing, spinning of thread from cotton and weaving, dragging of a country boat over a shallow rapid and marriage rituals.

The programme also showcased cultural items presented by Chakma Mahila Samiti, Cheraw dance by residents of Saizawh (W) and traditional dance Dailo by the Bru community.

Pu Lalrinliana Sailo speaking recalled how the venue of the programme, the Kamalanagar Helipad was once not like this but had three hillocks which were flattened to form a flat piece of land in which he took part while urging the three main communities living in CADC to live and mingle in harmony like the three hillocks.

He urged the YCA to work for the progress and development of CADC and to stand guard to check corruption and ensure proper utilization of developmental fund.
He donated Rs.50,000 and Rs.40,000 to the Young Chakma Association and Chakma Mahila Samiti respectively in recognition of their social service.

The CEM, CADC while speaking of the great sacrifice and pain endured by the pioneers of CADC autonomy movement narrated in detail how the leaders like Dg. Kristo Mohan Chakma, Dg. Hari Kristo Chakma, Dg. Gaur Nitai Chakma, Dg. Baneshwar Chakma and Dg. Atul Chandra Chakma maintained a sustained demand for autonomy for the Chakmas of Mizoram through constitutional means by making trip after trip to Shillong and Guwahati despite the wretched condition of the Chakma community then.

โ€œIt is our duty that we make ourselves worthy of the great sacrifice made and the legacy left upon usโ€, he emphasized.

โ€œThe Chakma Autonomous District Council has restored partially the Chakmas their right to self-determination which was once enjoyed by them prior to the British subjugating the Chakma king by treacheryโ€, he stated while adding, โ€œNone of us should harbour even by a trace that any favour has been done on us by having been granted the autonomy in the form of CADC, as such thinking can take toll upon our morale and dignityโ€.

He further added, โ€œIt is our natural right and all princely states existing during the time of Indiaโ€™s Independence were granted the choice for self-determinationโ€. The programme can be viewed here.

Recruitment to various posts under various departments to CADC to continue

In pursuance of decision taken by the Executive Committee in its meeting held on 9/2/2022, the Executive Committee of Chukma Autonomous District Council is pleased to direct the Recruitment Committee constituted to recruit Assistant (Non-Gazetteed), UDC, LDC, C/A-I, C/A-II and Group – D posts, 2021-2022 under different departments of Chakma Autonomous District Council, to resume the ongoing process of Recruitment which was put on hold as per the direction of the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram Vide L/No. F.12013/11/2022-DC&MA(C) Aizawl, the 19th January, 2022 . The committee should complete the entire recruitment process and submit the report to the undersigned latest by 23rd February, 2022.

Meeting held to celebrate CADC Golden Jubilee

Kamalanagar, 06 December, 2021: A meeting attended by Member of Chakma District Council, head of departments, CADC and representatives of Central Young Chakma Association, Chakma Mahila Samilti, Mizoram Chakma Student Union, Mizoram Buddhist Association, Chakma District Employee Association, Chakma District Pensioners Association, TARUM was held under the chairmanship of Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Chief Executive Member, CADC in the conference hall of CADC Rest House, Kamalanagar to discuss the celebration of CADC Golden Jubilee. CADC constituted on 29th April 1972 will complete 50 years on 29th April next year.

The meeting was held on 4th Dec., 2021 and was convened by Legislative Department, CADC.

The meeting constituted a committee for management of celebration of the occasion which has been named as CADC Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee (1972-2022). The Chairman of CADC will be the Chairman of the Committee.

Besides, three sub-committees were formed each for publication of a Souvenir, a photo album and installation of statues.

An advisory committee with Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, CEM, CADC, Dr. B.D. Chakma, MLA, Mizoram, Dg. Nirupam Chakma, former Minister, Mizoram, Dg. Alak Bikash Chakma, former MLA, Mizoram and Dg. H. Amaresh Chakma, EM, CADC as member was also formed.

The Golden Jubilee celebration will be held through the year with the opening and closing ceremony to be organised at Kamalanagar. In between celebration programmes will also be organised at the three sub-headquarters – Borapansury, Longpuighat and Parva.

The Celebration Commitee will chalk out the events to feature the Golden Jubilee Celebration.

Installation of life size statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and pioneers of CADC, planting of 5 Lakhs saplings throughout CADC during the Jubilee year, erection of CADC welcome gates at three entry points, setting up of Chakma model village, etc. were some of the proposals that emerged in the meeting for inclusion to mark the ocassion.

Newly appointed Executive Members of CADC take oath of office

Kamalanagar, 10 November, 2021: Seven Members of Chakma Autonomous District Council appointed as Executive Member of the new Executive Committee headed by Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Chief Executive Member, CADC were sworn-in today in a function organized in the Art & Culture Hall of CADC, Kamalanagar.

The seven MDCs sworn-in are Dg. H. Amaresh Chakma of 6-Kamalanagar South MDC Constituency, Dg. Amit Kumar Chakma of 15-Rengkashya MDC Constituency, Dg. Lakkhan Chakma of 17-Jaruldubosora MDC Constituency, Dg. Ajoy Kumar Chakma of 8-Udalthana MDC Constituency, Dg. Onish Moy Chakma of 10-Mandirasora MDC Constituency, Dg. Charan Singh Chakma of 9-Ugudasury South MDC Constituency and Dgb. Kusum Lota Chakma of 2-Borapansury-II MDC Constituency.

Newly sworn-in members of the Executive Committee

The previous Executive Committee headed by Dg. Durjya Dhan Chakma was rendered dissolved upon his resignation from the office of Chief Executive Member on 03/10/2021 which necessitated the reconstitution of the Executive Committee afresh. On the same day itself Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma after being elected the new leader of the CADC MNF Legislature Party staked claimed to be appointed as CEM of CADC. He assumed office on 14/10/2021 and recommended the names of the seven MDCs for induction in the new Executive Committee.

The CEM speaking in the swearing-in ceremony hailed that MNF government in CADC to be embodiment of achievement, development, good governance and rule of law while assuring to upheld these practices under his leadership.

He further added that the MNF government in CADC had never compromised the interest of the people and that of CADC. โ€œThe past track record of the party is testimony of my claimโ€, he asserted.

The CEM in urging his colleague Members to dedicate their service for the welfare of the people he recalled Gandhiโ€™s thought โ€“โ€œWhenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much, recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man/woman whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him/her. Will it lead to Swaraj for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?โ€.
