Kamalanagar, 30 April, 2020: The Members of Chakma Autonomous District Council in a meeting held today in the CADC Conference Hall, Kamalanagar decided to set aside Rs.20/- lakhs out of MDC LAD Fund to address problems arising due to Covid-19. The meeting was chaired by Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, CEM, CADC.

A committee will be setup for management of the fund and transparency shall be maintained diligently. It was noted by many speakers that CADC’s fund position was very limited and is constrained by Mizoram ADC Fund Rules 2010. Para 121(3) of the MADC Fund Rule 2010 requires – “In preparing the Budget, care should be taken to see that the grants/contributions received from the government are utilized only for the purpose for which these were given by the government. Any deviation considered necessary would require prior approval of the government.”

The meeting also resolved to write the Chief Minister, Mizoram for providing financial assistance to all the stranded Chakma migrant workers stuck in different parts of the country while providing him the list of all such migrant workers available with CADC.

Depending on the development of the situation with regards to Covid-19 in CADC appropriate measure shall be adopted with regards to the border areas.

It was also resolved that the employees of CADC will be appealed for financial contribution depending on the situation.

The CEM appealed all the MDCs to come forward for cause of national and community interest irrespective of one’s political affiliation and thanked all the members profusely for having shown solidarity in this hour of hardship. He thanked the MDCs and the CADC employees for having contributed to the Chief Minister Relief Fund and the PM CARE Fund.

The meeting also heard CADC’s role till date in the fight against Covid-19 and how it has been coordinating with the state government and the central government to facilitate in the mitigation of the hardship of the Chakma people stranded in different parts of the country.

The CEM appealed the MDCs to urge the farmers in their respective constituency to make best use of the farming season while apprehending a dreaded economic impact that Covid-19 will leave behind.
