CADC Celebrated 69th Independence Day

Kamalanagar, 15 August, 2015: The 69th Independence Day was celebrated at Kamalanagar, the headquarter of Chakma Autonomous District Council. Dangu Dr. B. D. Chakma, Minister of State graced the official celebration programme held at Kamalanagar football playground as its chief guest.

The national flag was unfurled at about 10 am to the chorus chanting of the national anthem.

There were 17 parade contingents who took part in the routine march past out of which 16 represented different schools of Kamalanagar town area. Different colourful cultural items were showcased on patriotic songs.

Dangu Dr. B. D. Chakma, local MLA while addressing the people expressed his deep sorrow over the 4th August incident where an innocent class-XI student was killed during police firing to disperse the agitating students. He said the magisterial enquiry that has been ordered to investigate the incident shall ensure justice to the victim.

He also spoke on the various developmental programme of his Government led by Pu Lal Thanhwla, Chief Minister, Mizoram. The Mizoram Food Security Act shall ensure food security to the people of Mizoram. Under the Act person below poverty line shall be entitled to 5kg of rice at the rate of Rs.3 and another 3kg at the rate of Rs.15. This facility shall be made available to the public from October this year, he said. It shall benefit some 81.88% rural populations.

“To ensure deliverance of better services to the NLUP beneficiaries the Government of Mizoram signed memorandum of understanding with UN Resident Co-ordinator and various UN agencies and Tata Trust”.

“Improvement and upgradation work of Chhumkhum-Chawngte road which is the lifeline of the people of Kamalanagar has started and will be completed by 2018. Chawngte-Diltlang road will be completed by 2016.”

Availability of potable water in Kamalanagar town is growing day by day. To address the growing water crisis Dangu Dr. B. D. Chakma said the Chawngte Greater Composite Water Supply Project under NEC has been taken up.

Kamalanagar so far had no schools where higher studies in science stream can be pursued. With the coming of the Udaygiri Higher Secondary School now students can study in science stream. He thanked Pu C L Ruala, Hon’ble MP(LS), Mizoram who have agreed to grant a sum of Rs.25 lacs out of MP-LAD Fund for construction of Udaygiri HSS building.

Longpuighat one of the vibrant commercial centre within CADC area is yet to have a facility for proper public health care services. Dangu Minister announced that very soon a Primary Health Centre will be established at Longpuighat.

The Independence Day celebration programme was held in the Kamalanagar football playground. The Honb’le Minister was pained to have seen the muddy condition of the field and promised to improve it before the next Independence day celebration.
